Luis Baquero works as Data Management Consultant at the Land Portal Foundation. He leads the curation of land-related data and publications, including the ingestion and structuring of statistical datasets, and supports the development of the Land Portal’s Data Stories and blogs. His work focuses on improving the accessibility, interoperability, and visibility of land data to strengthen open knowledge ecosystems in land governance.
Luis is an independent researcher and data analyst with a background in ecology, spatial analysis, and critical agrarian studies. He has worked as a research assistant in Colombian universities and as a GIS officer for local development organizations and international humanitarian NGOs. His expertise bridges data science and political ecology, with a focus on the labor dynamics of agrarian change, land tenure, and environmental justice.
He holds a BSc in Ecology from the Pontifical Xaverian University, a postgraduate diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, and an MSc in Rural Development through a joint program coordinated by Ghent University, Universidad de Córdoba (Spain), Can Tho University (Vietnam), and Humboldt University of Berlin.
