Fit-for-Purpose (FfP) App
The FfP Public Inspection Application is a web-based platform designed explicitly to support the community validation stage within the Fit-for-Purpose (FfP) land registration methodology. Developed by Javier Morales (2023), this application plays a central role in ensuring transparency, accuracy, and participatory approval of parcel boundaries and associated ownership claims collected during field surveys.
The application leverages PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases and the Apache/MapServer environment to dynamically present spatial and administrative data of land parcels to community members and local authorities in village meetings. Through an intuitive visual interface, claimants verify parcel geometries, confirm neighbouring relationships, and validate personal data previously recorded during field data collection. Approvals are digitally recorded through signatures or fingerprints, providing secure, auditable documentation critical for subsequent formal registration processes.
To facilitate clear tracking of approvals, boundary status is represented by a straightforward colour-coded system: black indicates pending validation, yellow indicates partial approval, green signals complete agreement by all involved parties, and red flags unresolved disputes. This real-time feedback enables immediate identification of disagreements, prompting community mediation and ensuring rapid resolution.
The web-based nature of the application further enhances transparency by allowing remote participation and observation. Community members and stakeholders can continuously monitor the inspection progress, and approvals can be recorded asynchronously when necessary. This flexibility ensures inclusivity and broad participation, significantly strengthening trust and legitimacy in the outcomes.
In summary, the FfP Public Inspection Application effectively bridges community involvement with formal land administration systems, transforming participatory validation into robust, documented agreements that form the basis for legally recognised land titles
