Securing land rights is critical for realizing sustainable food systems that provide food security and overcome poverty. Security of property rights is central to preserving livelihoods, maintaining social stability, and increasing incentives for investment and for sustainable, productive land use.  

Even though women are the primary users of agricultural land in most African communities, the system of patriarchy which dominates social organization has tended to discriminate against women when it comes to ownership and control of land resources.

Knowledge management and learning is at the heart of the LAND-at-scale program. For this reason, RVO is excited to announce a partnership with LANDac and the International Land Coalition for the implementation of an integrated knowledge management component as part of the program.

The new book Migration and Women’s Land Tenure Security in the Greater Mekong Sub-region draws on country-level and ethnographic research, based on a collaboration between FAO and Chiang Mai University.

Across the world, women are disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. One of the most dramatic effects is the rise in gender-based violence. Traditional and patriarchal systems for addressing abuse, often housed in police and court services, have failed to adequately respond to women’s needs.  

Land and property rights are an essential to building just and equitable societies. Yet Prindex data shows that more than 1 in 4 people living in the Middle East and North Africa fear for these rights – a higher proportion than anywhere else in the world.

This webinar will provide critical information on the status of women’s land rights for peace building in South Sudan. Key research findings and project outcomes in securing women’s land rights for peace and stability in South Sudan will be disseminated.
