In the complex soilscape of Rwanda, failure to tailor soil fertility management technologies to specific soil types is the major constraint to their adoption.
The study assessed the adoption of land use consolidation and its determinants in Nyanza District of Southern Province, Rwanda. Land use consolidation is part of the on-going crop intensification program led by the Ministry of Agriculture in Rwanda.
Up to one quarter of the world’s population is estimated to be landless, including 200 million
people living in rural areas,1
and approximately 75% of the world’s population living in extreme
poverty (less than $1/day) live in rural areas.2
Female-headed households often experience inequalities in access to resources and income-generating opportunities. Conflicts may make women poorer.
This thesis was aimed at the development of a Geographical Information System (GIS) based model to support the Rwanda Land Use and Development Master Plan. Developing sustainable land management is the main task of this master plan. Stakeholder’s involvement was of key importance.
