    The Law, with the view to implement the provisions of Directive 2007/2/EC, lays down general rules aimed at the establishment of the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Greece, for the purposes of Community environmental policies and policies or activities which may have an impact on the environment. The Law is divided into three Parts. Part A (articles 2-13) deals with the incorporation of the afore-mentioned Directive into the Greek legislative framework. Part B (articles 14-28) sets forth the national measures for the implementation of the Directive.

    In the process of harmonizing the Cypriot legislation with the environmental legislative framework of the European Union, this law sets forth the basic provisions for the protection of water resources and soil against polution. The law aims at protecting surface and underground waters and soil from human and industrial polluting activities and at controlling the disposal of liquid and solid industrial waste.

    This Law may be cited as the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (Amendment) Law of 2006 and shall be read as one with the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Law of 2003 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Law"). The principal Law and the present Law shall be read as one and will be referred to as the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Laws of 2003-2006. The present Law, for a better compliance with E.U. legislation, carries forward amendments to article 9 (issuance of permits) and article 10 (functioning of plants).

    The purpose of this Law is the prevention and control of pollution caused by large industrial plants. The Law provides for measures to prevent pollution; when preventing is not possible, the Law aims at reducing emissions to air, water and soil and prescribes waste management measures, as well as the rational use of natural resources and energy to achieve a high level of environmental protection.

    The institutional frame that conditions today the institution and operation of professional laboratories and manufactures in the basin of Attica, it is radically reformed with Law 2965/2001. This Law comes forth to abrogate the Presidential Order No. 84 of 1984 which for more than fifteen years constituted the basic legislative frame for the development of craft-based activity in the region of Attica. With this Law the classification of industrial activities is divided in low, medium and high harmful-effect categories (in compliance with art. 3 and 4 of Law No. 1650/86).

    The Law provides for land cadastre registration and the creation of the National Cadastre. It sets forth extensively the administrative procedures (up to the initial registrations of properties at the land logbooks) and lay down the guidelines for dispute settlements.

    This Law provides for the institution of the national Cadastre and Survey Organization, its functions and powers, involving activities dedicated to the management of cartography and topography of land. It is a public organization under the responsibility of the Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works. It is presided by a seven members Committee. The Committee’s mandate has duration of three years and may be re-elected without any restriction.
