In finding an answer to this, This explores the potential role of the Commons (land and water resources) in strengthening the viability of the agro‐pastoral production systems and the resilience of household livelihoods.

Imageries of Remote Sensing (RS) satellites provide data on the temporal and spatial status of natural resources. Repetitive coverage helps in understanding various changing physical processes in a particular area as also in monitoring closely, the changes taking place across different areas. The availability of data at different spatial resolutions (as coarse as 1 km or as fine as 1 m) provides the means of observing the land simultaneously at micro as well as macro levels.

Policy and planning documents define eight types of settlement in Delhi, only one of which is termed “planned”. The other seven types of settlement become, by opposition, ‘unplanned’. This ‘unplanned’ city houses the vast majority of Delhi’s residents across the economic spectrum: these settlements include the affluent farmhouses of South Delhi, well-built colonies populated by successful businesspeople, and dense slum-like areas.

The Independent People’s Tribunal (IPT) undertook an inquiry on the status of implementation of FRA to understand and analyze the reasons behind the lack of implementation and/or the violations in the implementation of the Act. The objectives of IPT were to:

1. Identify and analyze the various violations happening across states on the implementation

of FRA, and whether they are procedural or structural in nature.

2. The direct and indirect impact its non-implementation would have/has had on the

communities.

3. Assess the status of FRA thereof.
