    This Act provides for procedures for the removal of squatters from land. Any person who claims possession of land which he or she alleges is occupied by a person who entered into or remained in occupation without his or her licence or consent, or that of any predecessor in title, may make application to the Court to recover possession of the land. The Act also defines powers of the police force to enter on to land in the possession of trespassers and remove them and their belongings.

    This Act provides that wherever the words "Chief Lands Officer" appears in any provisions of any enactments or any subsidiary legislation of Mauritius, such words shall be replaced with "Director of Lands". This is necessary because of the restructuring of the Lands Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Rural Development during which the title "Chief Lands Officer" was considered as being no longer appropriate to use.

    This Act concerns the administration of real estate of deceased persons by personal representative of the deceased person or executor by will. The Act also makes provision for the disposal of land subject to this Act and other administration of assets. A testator may appoint, and in default of such express appointment shall be deemed to have appointed, as his or her special executors in regard to settled land, the persons, if any, who are at his or her death the trustees of the settlement thereof, and probate may be granted to such trustees specially limited to the settled land.

The objectives of this Act are on the one hand to provide a framework for the tenure and alienation of such land and on the other hand to provide for the planning and sustainable development of such land in accordance with certain principles.

    An Act to provide for the validation of a replacement register of native lands for Nikunau. The principal object of this Act is to enable the Government to establish a Land Commission which shall undertake to compile a replacement Register of Native Lands for Nikunau which has been destroyed. Section 3 imposes certain duties on the Commission when compiling the replacement register. Section 5 provides for the inspection of such register by villagers. Section 6 enables any person to raise any objection to or claim for inclusion of title in the replacement Register.

    From the records or judgment, or order or decision of various specified courts, a Commission appointed under section 3 shall compile a replacement Register of native lands recording therein all titles to native lands, pits, ponds, fish traps and sea walls in South Tarawa. The Register shall be open for inspection by the villagers, who may raise objections and lodge claims with respect to matters regarding inclusion of title in the replacement Register of Native Lands.

    An Act to establish a Land Registration Grievance Tribunal and for connected purposes.

    The purpose of this Act is to establish a Tribunal to hear outstanding complaints by direct descendants (defined section 2) of persons (family antecedents or ancestors) who were by mistake or fraud deleted from or denied entry on a land registry in the Gilbert Islands. It will be the function of the Tribunal to consider the grievance or complaint of these descendants. The Tribunal shall then report to the interested parties and to Government. The Tribunal will have no power, without written consent, to make any award of land or money compensation to a successful griever.
