    Recognizing the critical environmental and economic challenge of climate change that is facing the global community, the purpose of this Act is to create a regulatory scheme, a) to reduce greenhouse gas in order to respond to climate change, to protect the environment and to assist Ontarians to transition to a low-carbon economy; and b) to enable Ontario to collaborate and coordinate its actions with similar actions in other jurisdictions in order to ensure the efficacy of its regulatory scheme in the context of a broader international effort to respond to climate change.

    The present Regulation enforces the Surveys Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. S.30). In particular, the Regulation repeals the Ontario Co-ordinate System Regulation (R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 1028) dealing with a survey made for the purpose of establishing the location of points on the surface of the earth by geographic or grid co-ordinates.     The present Regulation enacts the Survey Act. For the purpose of the present Regulation “co-ordinate survey” means a survey made for the purpose of establishing the location of points on the surface of the earth by geographic or grid co-ordinates. Section 2 establishes that the system of co-ordinate surveys known as the “Ontario Co-ordinate System” is continued. The text consists of 8 sections and 1 Schedule.

    The purpose of this Act is to establish mechanisms to support a sustained long-term reduction of poverty in Ontario, above all of poverty of children. Section 3 establishes that not all groups of people share the same level of risk of poverty. The poverty reduction strategy must recognize the heightened risk among groups such as immigrants, women, single mothers, people with disabilities, aboriginal peoples and racialized groups.

    The present Act provides for the establishment of the protected park area St. Lawrence. To this end the St. Lawrence Parks Commission is continued as a corporation without share capital under the name St. Lawrence Parks Commission in English and Commission des parcs du Saint-Lawrence in French.

    The lands described in the Schedules are designated as conservation reserves with the purpose of protecting natural heritage areas and natural features on public land and preserving traditional public land uses including wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing, walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and boating. Furthermore, Land within a conservation reserve shall not be used for mining, commercial forest harvest, hydro-electric power development, the extraction of aggregate and peat or other industrial uses.
