This study was done to establish relationships between management and sanitary practices on ewe dairy farms and the quality of milk produced. For this purpose, a survey was carried out on 118 farms and a total of 121,117 animals in the Castilla-La Mancha region (Southeast Spain) in which the veterinarians of the Association of Sanitary Defence participated. Flocks varied considerably in size, ranging from 120-7,200 sheep, with an average milking period lasting 3-5 months and milk yields of between 50 and 150 litres per lactation by mechanical systems on 75.0% of farms.

In Slovenia, the Natura 2000 network covers 35.5% of its territory or 286 areas, encompassing 10 forest habitat types. The majority of indicators for the assessment of the conservation status and changes of forest habitat types are to be estimated within the forest management planning framework. In this paper, a hierarchical concept of forest habitat types monitoring in Pohorje Mts (810 km2) was examined and presented, based on landscape structure and position of habitat types in this structure.

Nineteen microsatellite markers were used to fingerprint a set of 19 potato landraces from the island of La Palma (Canary Islands). These landraces represent relicts of early introductions from South America, although most are commonly cultivated by local farmers. The SSR primers detected 62 polymorphisms, 13 of which were present in all landraces. Several accession- and group-specific markers were detected. Jaccard similarity coefficients were estimated from the molecular data and UPGMA cluster analysis was performed. Some cultivars with related common names clustered together.

The effects of subsidies on the development of organic farming (OF) in the Czech Republic and in some selected EU countries are analysed in this article. The level of subsidies for OF in the Czech Republic is continuously increasing. In 1998, the total amount of subsidies was 48 million CZK, whereas in 2004, it increased to nearly 277 million CZK. The increase of subsidies led to an increase in the number of organic farms as well as the area under OF.

The objective of the Spanish government-funded project GESMO (Gestión integral del acuífero 08.29 Mancha Oriental), is to develop new tools for the evaluation and monitoring of water policies. These tools have to be capable of matching resource exploitation with reserve sustainability, applied to aquifer 08.29 in the Eastern Mancha, Spain. A decision support system (DSS), was developed as part of the GESMO project, that integrates two different systems within one computer application. One, an hydrogeological model, simulates the River Júcar basin and its associated aquifer.

The Gene Bank of Agricultural Plants at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia holds 19 autochthonous accessions from different parts of Slovenia. The main morphologic

Cabbage production in Slovenia has a long tradition. Domestic varieties are bred from autochthonous population from different parts of Slovenia. The characteristics of domestic varieties (e.g. for sauering) are important for Slovenian consumers. On the other hand hybrid cultivars are uniform, give much higher yields and they are resistant to different diseases. So far, cabbage breeding at the Agri

Numerous autochthonous varieties have been developed during centuries of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) cultivation in Slovenia. In the Slovene Plant Gene bank (SPGB), maintained at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, 177 accessions are included that were obtained from various parts of Slovenia in the nineties of the last century. In addition, wild relatives and accessions obtained for the resear
