Les perturbations climatiques, l’évolution démographique et les sécheresses des dernières décennies, ont contribué à une rupture d’équilibre entre les systèmes de production pastorale et agricole, au détriment des pasteurs. À côté de ce contexte écosystémique, d’autres facteurs viennent aggraver la situation pastorale dans le Sahel, en particulier le rétrécissement de l’espace pastoral, grignoté par l’expansion des terres agricoles.

The Water Footprint of Food Aid

Food aid is a critical component of the global food system, particularly when emergency situations arise. For the first time, we evaluate the water footprint of food aid. To do this, we draw on food aid data from theWorld Food Programme and virtual water content estimates from WaterStat. We find that the total water footprint of food aid was 10 km3 in 2005, which represents approximately 0.5% of the water footprint of food trade and 2.0% of the water footprint of land grabbing (i.e., water appropriation associated with large agricultural land deals).

Avoiding, reducing and reversing land degradation is essential for the food security of current and future generations, for the conservation of biodiversity and the achievement of climate targets. In the current context of increased competition over land resources, rising food insecurity, and inequalities, combating land degradation is also necessary to prevent and mitigate conflict and mass displacement, which risk to destabilise countries and entire regions.

Cette étude examine l’évolution géographique et temporelle de la violence impliquant les communautés pastorales. Elle s’appuie sur l’analyse de plus de 36 000 évènements violents en Afrique du Nord et de l’Ouest entre janvier 1997 et avril 2020 dans lesquels 206 groupes pastoraux ont été impliqués, pour identifier au niveau régional des schémas plus larges de violence pastorale au cours des deux dernières décennies. Celle-ci s’est intensifiée dans la région, comme en témoigne la forte croissance du nombre d’événements et de victimes cette dernière décennie.

Le foncier est une question à la fois stratégique et centrale dans les processus de développement, et pour cause : la terre avec ses immenses ressources qu’elle englobe, est le premier intrant de la production. A ce titre, elle permet de répondre aux enjeux multiples qui ont pour noms : sécurité alimentaire, emploi agricole surtout pour les jeunes, exportation, etc.

C’est pourquoi la Commission de l’UEMOA s’est très tôt intéressée au foncier dans tous ses aspects, car étant une des questions au cœur du processus d’intégration communautaire.

The objectives of the report are to assess the statutory and customary land administration systems and practices in the five Darfur states of Sudan, and to provide guidance to relevant stakeholders on how to support the tenure security and housing, land and property (HLP) rights of people voluntarily returning to Darfur and of other vulnerable people, such as IDPs, refugees, women and youth. Although the primary focus of the report is on securing the land rights of returnees, vulnerable and displaced people, the findings and recommendations are relevant to the overall Darfur population.

The article attempts to provide an understanding of the phenomenon of conflict in the Horn of Africa. It identifies and dicusses the political factor as the root cause of the problem of peace and security in the subregion. The paper does not argue that thee is a gap of literature on the conflicts in the Horn of Africa. The argument it is trying to present is taht many of the works on the subject taht the author has consulted and reviewed concentrate on conflict markers such as ethnicity, region, religion, etc.
