The present Act lays down provisions relating to land use planning in the Canton of Nidwald. In particular, it ensures an economical use of soil, regulated settlements with a view to conserve natural living space, the cultural heritage of the Canton, a sustainable development and coordination of competences. It aims also at the unification of the construction law.

Wills may be placed in custody with the High Court. The Act sets out procedures of administration and prohibits any interfering with property of deceased by any person who is not authorized to do so.
