    The ongoing use of landscape-based conflict commodities — diamonds and other minerals, timber, wildlife, etc. — to finance wars continues to evolve. The success with which such commodities can be transacted to support militaries, militias and insurgencies has led belligerents to innovate with additional commodities. Housing, land and property (HLP) rights within war zones have belatedly joined the list of conflict commodities that are subject to transaction, and to such an extent as to warrant significant concern.

    It is widely understood that effective use of land, the sustainable production of food and development are linked. Yet, creating effective policy, which takes into account broader notions such as economic prosperity and social justice, especially in the context of competing claims to land use and title, still presents significant challenges. The difficulties are compounded by the fragmented nature of information resources about land.

    This table provides a listing of official documents required for the legal recognition of land tenure rights and land transactions. The database covers 68 countries in the world, including most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. This database was prepared for national statistical organizations, research institutes and others undertaking population surveys on land tenure. It will enable them to prepare questionnaires and facilitate the coding of land documents reported by respondents.

It presents compelling data on the nature of the violations, many of which were anticipated when local community members objected to the Waterfront Development Project (WFDP) of the Adani group in the region.

    This Act may be called the West Bengal land Reforms Act, 1955. It extends to the whole of West Bengal [except the area described in Schedule I of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation Act, 1980, but not excepting the area included in the said Schedule, which, immediately before the coming into force of the Calcutta Muncipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 1983, wascomprised in the municipality of Jadavpur, South Suburban or Garden Reach. 


    This act is modified up to the 1st January, 1999.
