This book is aimed at finding answers to questions about what the current situation with soil resources in the region of Central Asia and Southern Caucasus as related to food security, and how we can improve the food supply through the impact on the soil. The book consists of three parts. The first part is devoted to common issues of food security and sustainable development, and to the role of soil resources in their maintenance. The second part is about land resources, the assessment of their degradation and successful practices of their recovery.

Soil protection is the state problem since correct and rational use of all types of soil, including barren soil, saline soils, swamped soil, alkali soil and aqueous soil are the main reserve of dynamic development of agriculture and of the national economy as a whole. The purpose of the present Law is to ensure the integrity of soil surface, conservation thereof and rise of soil fertility, to establish the rights and the duties of landholders, landowners and the state in the field of soil protection and setting up conditions for ecological production. The Law consists of 11 Articles.

Independent Ukraine had 50 permanently operating airports in 1991. Nowdays there are currently only 20 operating airports in Ukraine, 2/3 of which require reconstruction and substantial technical re-equipment. Without proper investment, Ukraine is able to lose its status as a transit state, as it is unable to recover its transport infrastructure independently. In connection with this, the international experience of the development of airports, particularly in the Baltic States, Georgia, Norway, Poland, deserves special attention.

Региональное совещание для Восточной Европы состоялось в Бухаресте 22 24 марта 2010 года. Региональное совещание для стран СНГ будет проведено позже в этом году.

LegislationGeorgia, Asia, Western AsiaThis Law regulates the following issues: (a) conservation, rehabilitation of soil and improvement of soil fertility, prevention of soil erosion due flooding, landslide, soil pollution, siltation, waterlogging, and anthropogenic impact; (b) rehabilitation, improvement of soil and rational land tenure of low productive land; and (c) establishment of maximum allowable limits of contents of hazardous substances in soil, provisions related to application of pesticides and agrochemicals.
