    CRP 1.1 was presented at the 4th Fund Council Meeting in April 2011. CRP1.1 targets the poor and highly vulnerable populations of the dry areas. It aims to develop technology, policy and institutional innovations to improve livelihoods, using an integrated systems approach. The program focuses on four strategic research themes (SRTs ) which cut across five focus regions. This CRP was approved with conditions at the meeting and subsequently received unconditional approval of inception phase & conditional approval of overall program & budget on Nov. 9, 2011.

    Wetlands are important areas for social, cultural and economic

    benefits for local communities living in and around them. The Nile Basin

    region is endowed with rich and diverse wetlands supporting the

    livelihoods of millions of people covering 3% of the total Nile Basin area.

    Unfortunately, national and regional scale policies aimed at wetlands

    management in the Nile Basin region have not been inclusive of

    After a hiatus in dam investment, through the 1990s and the early part of this century, construction of large dams is increasing again. Modern decision support systems can usefully input to this process by guiding the analysis of complicated hydrological, environmental, social and economic factors associated with water allocation and assessing the impact of different, often conflicting, management options both in planning and operation of dams. This publication highlights the constructive role that decision support systems can play in planning and operation of dams.
