    Ethiopia

    Rangeland condition assessment was conducted in the Borana lowlands, southern Ethiopia to determine the current status and future trend of the grazing land with emphasis on comparing different functional land use units, called Kalo, Worra and Foora. An approach that integrated data from herbaceous and woody plants, soil and pastoralists' perceptions was followed. Density and canopy cover of woody plants were determined in 123 plots of 500m2.

    El artículo presenta los resultados obtenidos en los distintos proyectos llevados a cabo por la Universidad de Murcia (caracterización genética de la abeja murciana y protección y mejora de las poblaciones locales, análisis de la diversidad genética de poblaciones peninsulares e insulares de Apis mellifera iberiensis, entre otros), que les ha llevado a caracterizar las poblaciones de abejas de la Península Ibérica y a trazar un mapa de distribución de linajes evolutivos de estas poblaciones.

    The CAP reform of 2003 will change farmer's business environment in Europe. This paper analyses the impact of the reform on the land use in southern German grassland regions. The assessment will be based on model calculations for two typical grassland regions. Each study area represents one village with its specific farm structure and natural conditions. These regions differ in their excellence with respect to agricultural use. In Southern Germany small to medium sized family farms is the most frequent type of farming.
