    This paper aims to describe the state of theart of both water harvesting (WH) andsupplemental irrigation (SI) techniques in the temperate and sub-tropical dry lands, especiallyin the countries of WANA that are characterized by a Mediterranean-type climate. In addition,three case studies of water harvesting are presented (see annex). These were selected from the case studies presented at the FAO Expert Consultation Cairo (1994). By sharing with us the success and the failure of these endeavors, the authors of the case studies illustrate many of the points that are made in the text.

    This reports examines the opportunities for new sources of funding to support the Ministry of Water and Forests in Morocco. The report examines the current flows of funds between the forestry sector, local communities and the ministry and shows how the ministry does not receive sufficient revenue to implement its forestry policies and programmes. It also demonstrates how some of the fiscal policies currently in place do little to support sustainable forest management.

It is composed of ten parts including the following topics: forest resource situation assessment in Nigeria, FAO input data, status of forests and the country's vegetation, forest reserves, free areas and conservation areas, land ownership and tenure, inventory of high forests and plantations, followed by some results. A very short conclusion is given.

    This report presents the outcome of a macroeconomic survey of the forest sector of the Republic of Latvia. It presents issues and parameters facing public and private sector decision-makers in their respective attempts to develop this sector. It identifies opportunities and constraints to investment and proposes measures to, accordingly, either engage them or remove them. It also attempts to introduce simple methodologies to undertake analysis currently constrained by the absence of more comprehensive data.
